Thanks to ObamaCare, a lot of Americans in the low- and middle-income class have enjoyed subsidized health insurance for almost five years now. Still, there are few who deemed it humiliating or degrading to receive medical care paid for by taxpayers, when in fact they can pay for such from their own pockets.
What ObamaCare is not?
ObamaCare is not a replacement to Private Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. It does not regulate health care, but it does regulate health insurance in order to prevent abusive practices present in the for-profit health industry.
What ObamaCare is?
ObamaCare or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA or Affordable Care Act) had been around for almost five years now. Its goal is to make affordable, quality health insurance available for all U.S. citizens, thereby reducing the country’s health care spending. It seeks to provide consumer protection by regulating the health insurance system, providing subsidies, imposing the necessary taxes, and monitoring insurance exchanges.

Penalty for Being Uninsured
Unless exempted from Individual Mandate, any American who don’t get insured is penalized under the ObamaCare. When someone cannot afford private health care insurance; don’t qualify for Medicare, Medicaid or CHIP; and cannot afford health insurance despite the subsidies, only then can that person become exempted.
To avoid penalty, a citizen must purchase minimum essential coverage during open enrollment or get an exemption. A fee is to be paid for every full month without coverage or exemption. This mandate compels people to be proactive in getting insured under the ObamaCare or getting exemption.
