Crimea adopts April the Russian ruble as its official currency and abandon the Ukrainian hryvnia and the Russian state energy company Gazprom suggested to undertake the development of the oil and natural gas, said a senior government official in the region this, according to the Russian news agency RIA. The Crimean authorities had said earlier that the hryvnia will remain legal tender until 2016.
Unfortunately i must say that the parallel circulation of the ruble and the hryvnia will not work. We are turning to the ruble zone, said vice president of the Crimean government Termirgalief Rustam, according to RIA. Temirgalief was also asked by the RIA if the Crimea has received proposals from Russian oil companies to develop the oil industry. Of course, Gazprom was first approached us a proposal, replied the Temirgalief.
Gazprom spokesman declined to comment. Last week Temirgkalief stated that local authorities can sell the energy company Chornomornaftohaz to a Russian company as Gazprom just the region take control of the company, which is now part of a Ukrainian state energy company.
